Soap Lake Fire Department would like to take a moment to honor its previous fire chief, Nathan Stewart. This is in dedication to the one that helped SLFD reach its current status through their own dedication and devotion to both this department and the community we serve. Nathan Stewart turned in his gear May 5th, 2011 after serving as Fire Chief of SLFD since August of 2009.
The weather is warming up and the time has come for many to clean and dispose of various wastes (both household and yard). We would like to remind the citizens of Soap Lake that there are regulations for burning within the city limits (as well as the State of Washington). For those who are unfamiliar, this article will briefly inform you. We will also provide alternatives to burning your yard debris.
As the weather grows colder in the winter season, many will be spending the majority of their time indoors. There are a variety of ways that we heat our homes and a number of steps that can be taken to help prevent fires. Though the team here at Soap Lake Fire Department will come to your aid in the case of an emergency, the first line of defense is none other than you.
There are times when emergencies arise and the victims are left pondering, “Where is the fire department?”
Here at SLFD we strive to be right there, on scene, within a very short period of time. Our citizens must keep in mind that Soap Lake Fire Department is a 100% volunteer-operated service. This means that all our crew have daily duties (aside from firefighting) to tend to throughout any given day. We are not paid to man our station or be available at any given time twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. To some, this could mean that help is a long ways away. Not the case with SLFD.
